Opening of the photo exhibition and a conversation with guests

On Saturday, March 6th 2010 in the Gallery KUD France Prešeren, Ekvilib Institute announced the winner of the international photography contest and opened the exhibition "GLOBAL WORLD: through the lens of human rights".

On this occasion a round table was held with members of the international jury, the Slovenian Ombudsman and a representative of SPP, who talked about photography as a tool for promotion of human rights and about the limits of legitimacy that are raised by such photos.

The winner of this year's contest is GIULIO DI STURCO with the photostory Bihar Ahtermath, which was made in India in 2008 after devastaing floods in the state of Bihar.

His photos, together with other finalists of the contest, can be seen in KUD France Prešeren in Ljubljana until March 23 2010.

GIULIO DI STURCO is a 30-year old Italian photographer. He studied photography at the European Institute of Design and Visual Arts in Rome, and has covered North-American issues for many Italian magazines such as D (La Repubblica delle Donne), Internazionale, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Anna, Amica, Geo, lEspresso and others. For his work he received numerous awards, among others he won the first edition of the Reporters Without Borders contest in 2007, in February 2009 he won a World Press Photo award, in March 2009 he won the Sony award and in October 2009 he won the BJP international Photography Award.
