Transparency of development assistance is a key component in achievement its bigger efficiency. Transparency of development assistance means that we have an overview on how much assistance has been intended, how it was spent and what results have been achieved.
Transparency of development assistance is therefore crucial as it enables:
- governments of developing countries to better plan and manage with received assistance
- citizens of donor countries to better understand what their contributions in the form of paid taxes were used for and how they contribute to reducing global poverty
- people in developing countries to better understand the assistance their governments receive and what it is spent for
- parliaments and NGOs in developing countries to follow assistance flows and ensure that it is used in the most efficient way
- donors and development agencies to better coordinate their activities with the activities of other donors.
