GLOBAL STATE OF ART: theatre for development education
Ekvilib Institute is, in cooperation with its partners, starting a new project of global learning: GLOBAL STATE OF ART: theatre for development education.
Objective of the project:
The objective of the project is to raise awareness and promote education for development through participatory theatre techniques, and at the same time empower particularly youth to act as agents for social change and peer educators among themselves. The theatre will present a forum for creative and collective learning about global interdependencies, causes and effects of global inequalities, importance of human rights, while emphasizing responsibilities (and role) of each individual to promote and actively engage in addressing those issues and seeking local/individual solutions for global problems.
Activities of the project:
The activities of the project will include organisation of training seminars and workshops for trainers aiming at creating a forum for knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices among involved organisations; creation of network of trainers trained in participatory theatre techniques (e.g. Theatre of the Oppressed) that will work with the youth at local level; preparation of short manual on theatre techniques for development education; organisation of international festival and panel discussions on the use of art, particularly theatre, for social change; range of performances of involved groups at the local, national and international popular events.
